OK, so what is the role of a writer? It’s to write stuff that people actually want to read.

The advertising guru Leo Burnett once said “if you don’t get noticed, you don’t have anything.”  So whether the aim is to sell a product, promote a positive image or even change misconceptions, you have to know your audience… and what presses their buttons.

And, of course, you need to bear in mind that scoring your goal usually involves a bit of fancy footwork as well as some straight shooting!
